NVIDIA has paired 12 GB GDDR6X memory with the GeForce RTX 4080 12 GB, which are connected using a 192-bit memory interface. The GPU is operating at a frequency of 2310 MHz, which can be boosted up to 2610 MHz, memory is running at 1313 MHz (21 Gbps effective).

Being a dual-slot card, the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4080 12 GB draws power from 1x 16-pin power connector, with power draw rated at 285 W maximum. Display outputs include: 1x HDMI 2.1, 3x DisplayPort 1.4a. GeForce RTX 4080 12 GB is connected to the rest of the system using a PCI-Express 4.0 x16 interface. The card measures 267 mm in length, 112 mm in width, and features a dual-slot cooling solution. Its price at launch was 899 US Dollars.

Key Features:

  1. Ada Lovelace Architecture
  • CUDA Cores
    • The 12GB variant was slated to include a slightly lower CUDA core count than the higher-memory 16GB or 4090 counterparts, yet still delivering powerful raster performance and advanced parallel computing capabilities.
  • Fourth-Generation Tensor Cores
    • Accelerates AI-driven features like DLSS 3 (with Frame Generation), super resolution, and other deep learning applications, significantly boosting frame rates and productivity tasks.
  • Third-Generation RT Cores
    • Offers up to 2–3× the ray tracing speed over previous generations, enabling advanced lighting, shadows, and reflections in real-time for modern games and professional 3D software.
  1. 12GB GDDR6X Memory
  • GDDR6X VRAM
    • With 12GB of ultra-fast GDDR6X memory, this GPU variant was intended to handle high-quality textures and moderate 4K gaming loads, while also supporting robust performance in content creation and AI tasks.
  • Optimized Bandwidth
    • Although less capacity than the 16GB or 24GB models, the 12GB GDDR6X memory still provides high data transfer speeds, enabling consistent performance across gaming, editing, and compute tasks.
  1. AI and Ray Tracing Enhancements
  • DLSS 3
    • Leverages Tensor Cores to combine super resolution with Frame Generation, effectively amplifying frame rates at high resolutions while preserving or improving image quality.
  • Hardware-Accelerated Ray Tracing
    • Real-time path tracing in games and professional software, delivering immersive visuals with physically accurate lighting and reflections.
  1. Efficient Power and Cooling
  • TDP Range (~285–320W)
    • The 12GB model was projected to draw slightly less power than the highest-tier cards, making it somewhat more manageable in terms of PSU requirements and system thermals.
  • Custom Cooling Solutions
    • Board partners typically implement advanced heatsinks, multiple fans, or AIO water cooling, ensuring stable clocks under heavy gaming or rendering loads.
  1. Connectivity and Display Features
  • HDMI 2.1 & DisplayPort 1.4a
    • Supports high refresh rates (4K at 120Hz, even up to 8K at 60Hz on compatible monitors/TVs), fostering smooth visuals for gaming or professional tasks.
  • NVIDIA G-SYNC
    • Ensures tear-free, low-latency gameplay on G-SYNC compatible displays, with minimal stutter or input lag.

Applications:

  1. PC Gaming
    • 1440p & 4K Gaming: Targeted to easily handle AAA titles at ultra settings, especially when paired with DLSS for higher frame rates.
    • High-Refresh Competitive Titles: For competitive gamers seeking high fps at 1080p or 1440p with advanced features like Reflex, G-SYNC, and low-latency rendering.
